| Reverse description | A stylised depiction of a standing dog shown in left profile, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, symbolising the Chinese Lunar Year of the Dog. The Chinese characters 壹仟 (one thousand) appear to the left of the figure and 澳門 (Macau) to the right, flanking the dog at mid-field. The denomination 1000 PATACAS is inscribed in two lines along the lower portion of the coin. The design is framed by a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Macau's lunar gold series was issued under Portuguese administration in the final years before the 1999 handover to China, a period when the territory's government was actively minting prestige numismatic pieces partly to generate revenue and partly to assert a distinct Macanese identity before the transition. The 1000 Pataca denomination was the series' flagship gold issue, struck for collector export rather than any domestic circulation purpose.
KM#69 is the Dog year entry in a run that began in 1981. Mintages for individual years varied considerably, and the 1994 issue was produced in relatively modest numbers.
