Obverse description The obverse is dominated by an intricate arrangement of Islamic geometric and arabesque ornamental vignettes rendered in blue and maroon on a light guilloche underprint, with two large rectangular cartouches framing the central blank space. The Arabic denomination "ألف أوقية" (One Thousand Ouguiya) appears in large calligraphic script at left, with the numeral 1000 repeated in the upper corners and a colour-shifting ornamental medallion at lower right. The issuer's name in Arabic occupies the upper right, the date appears at lower left, and two signature lines with Arabic titles are placed below the denomination text.

Reverse description The reverse carries a multicolour guilloche underprint in green and blue tones, with a central ornamental frame of interlocking arabesque motifs enclosing a blank security panel. To the left, an intaglio vignette shows a bowl of fish resting on a net, symbolising the country's fishing resources. To the right, a resting camel in the foreground is set against a scene of a traditional round-roofed hut and a square stone tower, evoking Mauritania's pastoral and architectural heritage.
