Radiating lines emanate from behind the figure, filling the field. Additional information

The World Fellowship of Buddhists, founded in Colombo in 1950, held its 23rd General Conference in Bhutan in 2004, and this issue was struck in anticipation of that event — one of the few times Bhutan used a commemorative gold coin to mark a specific international Buddhist gathering on home soil. Bhutan's Royal Mint output in gold has always been sparse, and conference-related issues from this period were produced in strictly limited quantities for presentation and collector purposes rather than any circulation function.
