Hasbro introduced the MEGA Edition in 2006 as an expanded variant of the standard game, increasing the money supply to accommodate higher property prices and the added outer ring of streets. The 1000-dollar denomination was a direct consequence of that inflation — classic Monopoly caps out at 500s, but the MEGA board pushed transactions into territory where smaller denominations became impractical.
