| Obverse description | Central design features a double-headed eagle displayed within a diamond-shaped frame, flanked by traditional Turkmen geometric ornamental devices at each corner and along the cardinal points. The legend TURKMENISTANYN MERKEZI BANKY arcs along the upper periphery, with the inscription TURKMENISTANYN PREZIDENTI SAPARMYRAT TURKMENBAsy arranged within the central frame surrounding the eagle. Sprigs of laurel branch from the lower portion of the central frame toward the rim. The date 2006 appears in the lower field beneath the central motif, and a reeded border frames the entire design. |

The Ruhnama — "Book of the Soul" — was written by Saparmurat Niyazov, Turkmenistan's first post-Soviet president-for-life, who declared it a sacred text equal in standing to the Quran. Schools were required to teach it, drivers had to pass an exam on its contents to obtain a license, and a giant mechanized monument in Ashgabat opened nightly to display its pages. This coin was issued while Niyazov was still alive; he died in December 2006, and the cult infrastructure built around the book collapsed within years of his death.
