| Obverse description | Central effigy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov standing at a podium, facing slightly left, delivering an address. The figure is rendered in high relief against a plain field. A circular legend in Latin script surrounds the design, reading the president's title and name along with a reference to the 62nd Session of the UN General Assembly. |

Turkmenistan assumed the chairmanship of the United Nations Group of 77 in 2007, and the Berdimuhamedow government — barely a year into power following the death of Saparmurat Niyazov — moved quickly to issue commemorative coinage marking the occasion. It was a calculated exercise in international legitimacy: Niyazov's two-decade cult-state had left the country diplomatically isolated, and the new administration was aggressively repositioning itself on the world stage. The G77 presidency offered a convenient hook.
Struck in 22-karat gold at just under 40 grams, the issue targets the commemorative bullion market rather than any circulation purpose — Turkmenistan's domestic economy ran almost entirely on banknotes and small base-metal coinage.
