| Obverse description | Bimetallic coin featuring a left-facing draped bust of Italia in the copper-nickel centre, her hair bound in a cloth headdress and adorned with a mural crown atop her head, rendered in a refined classical style by engraver Laura Cretara. The bronzital outer ring carries the legend REPVBBLICA ITALIANA arranged along the left and right periphery in raised Latin lettering, with twelve five-pointed stars distributed along the upper arc, symbolising European unity. The engraver's signature L. CRETARA appears incuse at the base of the centre field. The overall design evokes the allegorical tradition of personifying the nation as a crowned female figure. |

| Reverse description | The copper-nickel centre displays a stylised globe overlaid with a large five-pointed star whose outline delineates the map of Europe, emphasising the reunited territory of Germany within the European Union context. Meridian and parallel lines of a cartographic grid radiate across both the central field and the bronzital outer ring, which bears additional continental landmass outlines in low relief. The denomination L.1000 appears in large characters along the lower arc of the outer ring, flanked by circular ornaments, while the date and Rome mint mark R are positioned on the left and right sides of the ring respectively. The engraver's signature PERNAZZA is inscribed at the base of the central field. |
