| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first President of the Turkish Republic, rendered in moderate relief with naturalistically detailed hair swept back from the forehead. The effigy is unadorned and depicts Atatürk in civilian dress with a collar visible at the truncation. The circular legend TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ (Republic of Turkey) runs along the upper periphery in Latin script. |

| Additional information |
Turkey's 1000 Lira coin was issued during one of the most sustained inflationary collapses in the country's modern history. Annual inflation throughout the mid-1990s regularly exceeded 80%, meaning the purchasing power of this denomination was effectively obliterated within months of each year's minting. By the time the series ended in 1998, 1000 Lira would barely cover a fraction of what it had when the denomination was first introduced decades earlier.
The broader crisis ultimately forced a redenomination in 2005, when the New Turkish Lira replaced the old at a rate of 1,000,000 to one.
