Printed by the Banque de France during the German occupation of France — a peculiar arrangement that continued into the mid-war years as Romania and Vichy France maintained functional relations. Gaspérini was one of the Banque de France's senior intaglio engravers, and his hand shows in the quality of line work, which is markedly finer than what Romanian domestic printing of the period could produce.

The extended date range reflects wartime reissue rather than a single print run. Romania's currency was under severe inflationary pressure by 1943–1944, and 1000 Lei, once a substantial sum, had eroded considerably in purchasing power before the series was eventually retired following the Soviet-backed monetary reform of August 1947.
