Angola's 1991 issue came during a particularly unstable period — the country was still deep in civil war, and the Banco Nacional de Angola was simultaneously managing hyperinflationary pressure and near-total collapse of the formal banking sector. The 1000 Kwanza denomination, while nominally significant, lost purchasing power rapidly; within two years the currency was replaced altogether by the Kwanza Reajustado in 1995, rendering this series obsolete after an unusually short active lifespan.

Thomas De La Rue's production is clean, though the single watermark security feature reflects a fairly modest specification for the period — a point worth noting when authenticating, since the note circulated in an environment with limited institutional capacity to detect counterfeits.
