Obverse description The four Landvættir (protective spirits) of Iceland are depicted in relief across the field: Griðungur the bull, Gammur the great eagle, Dreki the dragon, and Bergrisi the mountain giant, arranged in a heraldic composition recalling the traditional coat of arms of Iceland. The design is rendered in a stylized, modernist idiom. The circular legend appears around the design, and the denomination and issuer name are inscribed in the field in Icelandic.
