Kjedehuset was a Norwegian discount retail chain that collapsed in 2002, one of several high-profile retail failures during that period of consolidation in Scandinavian consumer goods. These promotional notes were issued as in-store gift vouchers or loyalty instruments — not legal tender at any point — and circulated only within the chain's redemption network.
The collapse means most went unredeemed. Survivors are effectively stranded scrip from a defunct issuer, which is the only thing that makes them collectible.
