The French Treasury series printed by Forbes Lithograph in Boston was produced for use in liberated France following the Allied landings — part of the broader Allied Military Currency program that also covered francs printed by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Forbes was primarily a commercial lithographer, and their involvement reflects the sheer volume of currency the Allied administration needed on short notice rather than any preference for their output.
De Gaulle's provisional government viewed the entire Allied-issued franc series with open hostility, seeing it as an infringement on French financial authority. Paris moved quickly to withdraw and replace these notes, limiting their time in circulation.
