| Additional information |
The BEAC issues coins on behalf of six Central African member states — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of the Congo — under a currency union whose franc is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate inherited from the old CFA franc arrangement with France. Most collector pieces attributed to this issuer are struck by private European mints on contract, not by any facility on the African continent.
The springbok is native to southern Africa, well outside BEAC's geographic territory — its appearance here is a concession to the international bullion and novelty coin market rather than any regional significance.
