| Reverse description | Imposing front-facing bust of the Minotaur, the bull-headed creature of Greek mythology, dominates the field in ultra-high relief, depicted with massive curved horns and a heavy chain about its neck and wrists. The creature's human hands grasp a decorative cylindrical vessel or torch cup from which a selectively gilt golden flame rises prominently, providing a vivid contrast to the otherwise antique-finished silver surface. Labyrinthine stone wall textures fill the background field, evoking the creature's mythological prison. The inscription MINOTAUR arcs along the right border in Roman capitals, integrated into a braided rope border encircling the design. A Greek meander pattern is visible within the border, echoing the obverse decorative scheme. |
