Additional information

Chad has no meaningful history of silver coinage as a monetary instrument — this piece was produced entirely for the collector market, part of a wave of African wildlife-themed issues that flooded the numismatic trade in the 2010s through European distribution networks, primarily Bavarian Mint and associated licensing arrangements. The issuing "authority" is nominal; the coins were never intended for Chadian circulation and the republic collects a licensing fee in exchange for its name on the obverse.

KM#196 was one of several Chad wildlife issues that appeared nearly simultaneously across different animal subjects, sharing identical technical specifications.
