| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Republic of Guinea occupies the central field, depicting a shield bearing a dove, flanked by stylized foliage. The circular legend reads '* REPUBLIQUE DE GUINÉE *' along the upper periphery, with the denomination '1000 FRANCS GUINÉENS' inscribed along the lower border. The design is rendered in high relief against a polished field. |

Guinea's small-format gold issues of this type were produced by the Berne-based Swissmint subsidiary B.H. Mayer's Kunst-Prägeanstalt in Munich, which has struck the bulk of Guinea's modern commemorative program — a program existing almost entirely for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. Pius X was canonized in 1954, the first pope elevated to sainthood in nearly four centuries.
