Additional information

Guinea's small-format gold issues of this type were produced by the Berne-based Swissmint subsidiary B.H. Mayer's Kunst-Prägeanstalt in Munich, which has struck the bulk of Guinea's modern commemorative program — a program existing almost entirely for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. Pius X was canonized in 1954, the first pope elevated to sainthood in nearly four centuries.
