| Obverse description | The Congolese coat of arms is depicted at centre, featuring a shield supported by two elephants and surmounted by a crown, with a ribbon below bearing the national motto in three parts. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed along the lower periphery. A beaded inner border frames the entire design within the field. |

| Additional information |
The Republic of the Congo — not to be confused with the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo — has issued collector bullion under the "African Wildlife" umbrella for years, competing directly with better-established programs from Cameroon and Chad for the same European and Asian retail market. These small-format fractional gold pieces are struck by private European mints under licensing arrangements, with the issuing nation receiving a royalty while retaining virtually no minting infrastructure of its own.
KM#279 places this squarely within that commercial lineage, not a sovereign monetary decision.
