| Additional information |
This piece belongs to a loose series of French Impressionist-themed issues that proliferated from African CFA-zone mints in the 2010s — collectibles in every practical sense, with no intended circulation. Gabon's use of the CFA franc, pegged to the euro and managed by the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale, gives the issuing authority technical legitimacy while the subject matter has no connection to Gabonese history or culture whatsoever.
Van Gogh painted the Auvers vineyard series in 1890 during his final months, while staying under the informal care of Dr. Paul Gachet. He died in Auvers-sur-Oise that July.
