Burkina Faso has no rhinoceros population and hasn't had one within recorded modern history — the animals were extirpated from the broader West African sahelian zone long before the country's independence in 1960. This coin was issued under the authority of the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest, which administers the CFA franc on behalf of eight member states, though collector silver issues like this one are contracted through private minting operations and bear no relationship to circulating currency.
