| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Benin occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield with a castle, a Order of the Star of Africa cross, a palm tree, and a sailing ship in the respective quarters, surmounted by a buffalo head with stylised horns. Two leopards serve as supporters on either side of the shield, and a scrolled ribbon below bears the national motto.
