The Republic of the Congo — not to be confused with the Democratic Republic of the Congo across the river — is a member of the CEMAC monetary union, which uses the Central African CFA franc administered by the BEAC. Coins issued under this authority for collector purposes are typically produced by overseas private mints under license, with the issuing state exercising minimal oversight over design or mintage decisions.
