Additional information

The Sörlandet is a Norwegian full-rigged ship launched in 1927 and still sailing today, making her one of the oldest operational square-riggers in the world. Benin's inclusion of foreign tall ships in its collector coin program reflects a broader BCEAO-area practice of issuing silver pieces with no meaningful connection to the issuing nation — revenue generation dressed as numismatics. The ship completed her first circumnavigation only in 1933–1934 under Captain Kristian Falk.
