| Additional information |
The Soleil Royal was a 104-gun French first-rate ship of the line launched in 1670, the flagship of Admiral Tourville at the Battle of Beachy Head in 1690 — where the French fleet handed the Anglo-Dutch force one of its worst defeats of the age. She was run aground and burned by her own crew at Cherbourg two years later to prevent capture after the Battle of Barfleur.
Ivory Coast's commemorative program of this period issued numerous numismatic pieces under BCEAO licensing with no domestic circulation intended, produced primarily for the European collector market.
