Additional information

Benin's wildlife coin program of the mid-2000s was produced by the Bavarian State Mint on behalf of the CFA issuing authority, targeting the European collector market rather than domestic circulation. Few of these pieces ever reached West Africa at all.

The Secretary Bird — native to sub-Saharan grasslands and a known predator of venomous snakes — carries particular symbolic weight in francophone African numismatics, appearing on several national emblems across the region.
