Additional information

The Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest — the common central bank for the eight-nation West African Economic and Monetary Union — issued a series of wildlife-themed silver pieces in the mid-2000s aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation. These were produced under licensing arrangements typical of small-mintage commemorative programs, with actual striking almost certainly contracted to a European mint rather than performed within the BCEAO member states.

KM# 105 places this among a cluster of related issues from the same period. Mintage figures for these releases were rarely published with transparency.
