Obverse description The obverse features the national coat of arms of Chad rendered in high relief at center, depicting two lions rampant flanking a shield, set within a geometric Mondrian-inspired grid composition of raised rectangular panels of varying proportions. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD is inscribed vertically along the left border and horizontally across the central field, with the date 2022 appearing in the upper left panel. The denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA is distributed across the lower right panels, with FRANCS CFA appearing in a dedicated horizontal register at the base of the inner design.

Reverse description The reverse presents a full-color reproduction of Gustav Klimt's oil painting 'Portrait of a Lady' (circa 1916-17), rendered across the entire square field of the coin. The composition depicts a three-quarter bust of a young woman with dark upswept hair, pale complexion, and parted lips, turned slightly to her left, wearing a white floral-patterned garment with blue and yellow highlights. The background is rendered in deep teal and green tones with characteristic Klimt crackling texture effects faithfully reproduced in polychrome printing. The crisp raised border of the square flan frames the artwork in the manner of a picture frame, emphasizing the painterly aesthetic of the design.

Additional information

The Bank of Central African States issues CFA franc coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of the Congo — whose shared currency has been pegged to the euro at 655.957 francs since 1999, itself inherited from the franc français peg established at independence. A 1,041-gram copper piece denominated at 1,000 francs has a face value of roughly €1.50.

These oversized issues are produced for the collector market, not circulation.
