The BEAC issues commemorative silver under the authority of the six-member CEMAC monetary union — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — a currency bloc whose common franc has been pegged to the euro (and before that the French franc) since 1948. These coins are produced entirely for the collector market; none circulate within the issuing states.
The police dog theme follows a well-worn formula among BEAC commemoratives, which have leaned heavily on wildlife and working-animal subjects since the mid-2010s to drive secondary-market sales in Europe and Asia.
