Obverse description The complete coat of arms of the Gabonese Republic occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing a sailing ship and horizontal bands, supported by two black panthers rampant on either side. An okoumé tree with spreading branches forms the crest above the shield, flanked by two scrolls bearing the motto UNITI PROGREDIEMUR. A ribbon at the base of the shield carries the secondary motto UNION TRAVAIL JUSTICE. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE GABONAISE arcs along the upper rim, with the fineness inscription 999/1000 FINE GOLD below it, and the denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA appears prominently along the lower rim. The SCM mint mark is visible to the lower left of the shield.

Additional information

At 0.031 grams, this is fractional gold in the most literal sense — closer in mass to a small insect than a conventional bullion piece. Gabon's CFA franc issues of this type are produced for the collector gift market, not domestic circulation, exploiting the nominal face value of CFA coinage to sell micro-gold at substantial premiums over spot.
