| Obverse description | The obverse displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Gabon centrally in the field, featuring a quartered shield with a sailing ship and bezants, supported on the dexter by a black panther and on the sinister by a lion, with a tree issuing from the chief of the shield. A scroll below bears the national motto UNION TRAVAIL JUSTICE, while a second scroll on the shield reads UNITI PROGREDIEMUR. The legend RÉPUBLIQUE GABONAISE arcs along the upper periphery, with 999/1000 FINE GOLD inscribed below it. The denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA appears along the lower rim, and the SCM mint mark is present in the lower left field. |

At 0.0311 g of fine gold, this is among the smallest gold coin formats commercially produced — essentially a novelty instrument issued by the BEAC under the authority granted to member states for commemorative coinage. The Central African franc zone issues of this type generate revenue almost entirely through collector premiums, bearing no meaningful relationship to the CFA's fixed peg to the euro.
