Additional information

Haast's eagle (Hieraaetus moorei) hunted moa in New Zealand until Polynesian settlers eliminated both predator and prey within roughly a century of arrival — the eagle's extinction, around 1400 AD, was entirely driven by the collapse of its food source. It remains the largest eagle known to have existed, with talons comparable in size to a modern tiger's claws.

The Bank of Central African States issues these wildlife-themed commemoratives almost entirely for the collector export market; they circulate nowhere in the BEAC zone.
