The country had been through a decade of political fracture — the First Ivorian Civil War ran from 2002 to 2007, and the post-election crisis erupted again in late 2010, meaning this coin was issued at the precise moment the country was in active armed conflict over disputed election results between Gbagbo and Ouattara.
