Benin has no air force to speak of and no historical connection to the Douglas DC-4, which makes this coin's existence purely commercial — one of dozens of transport-themed issues produced for the European collector market in the early 2000s by the Monnaie de Paris under licensing arrangements with West African states that received a modest seigniorage fee in return.
