| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Burkina Faso occupies the central field, featuring a shield bearing a five-pointed star, supported by two rearing stallions facing inward, with crossed lances behind the shield and an open book at the base. A ribbon below carries the national motto in three segments. The circumferential legend reads REPUBLIQUE DU BURKINA FASO along the upper arc and 1000 FRANCS CFA along the lower arc, with BURKINA FASO inscribed on the central scroll of the arms. The coin is struck with an antique finish, imparting a deeply toned, aged appearance to the relief. |

| Additional information |
Burkina Faso has issued commemorative coinage through the Monnaie de Paris under licensing arrangements common to several West African CFA franc states, which retain the franc as currency through monetary agreements with France but exercise independent authority over collectible issues. The ammonite series targets the paleontology collector market rather than domestic circulation — these pieces are produced in limited quantities for international distributors and never reach Burkinabé hands as currency.
Ammonoidea became extinct at the K-Pg boundary approximately 66 million years ago, alongside non-avian dinosaurs.
