Burkina Faso has issued coins under the CFA franc system since independence in 1960, but the country's mint authority has long licensed its nominal issuing rights to private distributors — primarily European firms — who produce collector pieces with no meaningful domestic circulation intended. This coin exists entirely for the numismatic export market, its Burkinabé attribution a legal convenience rather than a reflection of any national monetary program.
The gilding and colorization were applied after striking, a post-mint process common to this genre of licensed issues from the 2010s.
