| Obverse description | Central field features a finely rendered bust of a young African woman in three-quarter profile, her hair styled in traditional braided cornrows, her hand raised to her chin in a contemplative pose. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD arcs along the upper periphery, while the national motto UNITE · TRAVAIL · PROGRES curves along the inner border to the left. The denomination 1000 FRANCS is inscribed in bold relief along the lower rim. The portrait is executed in a naturalistic style against a mirror-polished proof field. |

The Bank of Central African States — the BEAC — issues commemorative coinage on behalf of six member nations, and attribution can be murky; this piece circulates in the catalog literature under Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic depending on the source. The colorized rhinoceros series from this period was aimed squarely at the European collector market, produced by private minting contractors rather than any state facility in the issuing region.
The northern white rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum cottoni, was already functionally extinct in Central Africa by 2001.
