Chad's late-1990s wildlife series was produced primarily for the collector export market, with actual distribution in N'Djamena essentially nonexistent. The Bird of Paradise issues were struck by European contract mints — almost certainly Valcambi or a comparable Swiss facility — under licensing arrangements that were common among francophone African states seeking seigniorage revenue without the infrastructure to operate their own minting programs.
