Obverse description A rampant bear in high relief occupies the center of the field, representing the heraldic symbol of Appenzell. The circular legend around the periphery reads EIDGENÖSSISCHES FELDSCHIESSEN APPENZELL, separated by five-pointed stars, with the date 1986 in the lower exergue flanked by two stars. The border is decorated with fine milled dentilation.
