The Conseil Monétaire de la République du Congo was a transitional authority, not a central bank in the conventional sense — it was established to manage currency in the immediate aftermath of independence in 1960 while permanent monetary institutions were still being negotiated. This note is one of the earliest issues under that body, and Bradbury, Wilkinson's involvement reflects the common postcolonial pattern of newly independent states contracting established European security printers before domestic capacity existed.
The series is scarce in circulated grades due to the extreme political instability of the period; the Congo Crisis ran through the entire lifespan of this issuing authority.
