Obverse description Central intaglio vignette of a busy harbour scene with a steam locomotive in the foreground and a large cargo vessel being loaded at dockside, evoking the commercial activity of French West Africa. The denomination 1000 appears in large numerals within ornate guilloche rosettes at each corner, with the bank title across the top and MILLE FRANCS in bold letterpress below it. Two manuscript signatures appear at the lower centre alongside a date, with anti-counterfeiting text referencing Article 139 of the Penal Code running along the lower margin.
