| Obverse description | The obverse is executed in rich polychrome intaglio and centres on an orientalist market vignette by L. Jonas, with a reclining Polynesian woman in the foreground at right and a busy North African souk with camels and figures receding into the background. The denomination '1000' appears in red at upper left and right, flanking the oval watermark reserve zone, while the black overprint 'PAPEETE' is applied at upper left beneath the issuer title 'BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE' and the value inscription 'MILLE FRANCS' in bold letterpress across the top.
