| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Equatorial Guinea occupies the central field, depicting a silver shield charged with a silk-cotton tree (Ceiba pentandra) above a wavy sea, flanked by six gold stars arranged in an arc above the shield and supported by two scrolling branches. Below the shield, a banner bears the national motto in three segments: UNIDAD to the left, PAZ at centre, and JUSTICIA to the right. The country name REPUBLIC OF GUINEA ECUATORIAL is inscribed along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, while the denomination 1000 FRANCOS CFA curves along the lower rim. |

| Additional information |
Equatorial Guinea is a CFA franc zone member through the BEAC (Banco de los Estados de África Central), yet this piece carries a denomination in francs while being issued under the authority of a country whose official currency for everyday use is the Central African CFA franc — a relationship that has never been entirely tidy since Equatorial Guinea only joined the franc zone in 1985, having previously used the ekwele. Modern collector issues from Equatorial Guinea are almost universally struck by private minting contractors and distributed through the numismatic trade rather than circulated domestically.
