The P#180 1000 Forint series replaced the previous Soviet-era iconography that had defined Hungarian currency for decades, part of a broader redesign program begun after the political transition of 1989–90. Magyar Pénzjegynyomda has handled Hungarian banknote production domestically since its founding, and the engraving here is split work — Vagyóczky taking the obverse, Lengyel the reverse — an arrangement not uncommon for the printer but worth noting when assessing plate quality differences between sides.
The 1998–1999 dating reflects a staggered release across two print runs.
