| Reverse description | The left portion of the field bears a finely detailed high-relief portrait bust of Armenian astrophysicist Benjamin Margaryan, facing slightly to the right, rendered in a realistic engraved style. To the right of the portrait, stylized depictions of galaxies discovered by Margaryan are shown alongside their designations: NGC 4458, NGC 4402, M84, and M86, set against a stippled cosmic background. The Armenian legend 'ԲԵՆԻԱՄԻՆ ՄԱՐԳԱՐՅԱՆ' curves along the upper rim, while the Latin inscription 'BENJAMIN MARGARYAN' runs along the lower portion of the field, flanked by his life dates '1913–1985'. |

| Additional information |
Benjamin Margaryan served as Mayor of Yerevan from 1996 until his sudden death in office in March 2008 — a death attributed to acute heart failure that nonetheless generated considerable public speculation in a country where political mortality rarely goes unquestioned. This commemorative was issued five years after his death as part of Armenia's ongoing series honoring notable statesmen.
The series to which KM#253 belongs has seen highly variable mintage figures, with several issues struck in quantities below 500 pieces.
