Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. was one of the dominant American bank note engraving firms of the antebellum period, later absorbed into the American Bank Note Company at its 1858 consolidation. The firm's work for The Bank of the United States came posthumously — the Second Bank of the United States lost its federal charter in 1836 under Andrew Jackson, and its Pennsylvania state charter expired in 1841 after a failed attempt to survive as a state institution under Nicholas Biddle.
