This kilo gold issue was released to capitalize on Palmer's death in 2016 and the subsequent surge in commemorative licensing — Solomon Islands has been among the most aggressive issuers of large-format bullion commemoratives through the Perth Mint, which struck this piece under contract. At spot plus fabrication premiums, a kilo of .9999 gold at 2020–2021 prices placed the raw melt value alone above $60,000 USD.
