Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait, depicting the monarch wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs across the upper field and 'AUSTRALIA' along the right, while the lower field carries the inscriptions '10oz 9999 GOLD', the date '2018', and the denomination '1000 DOLLARS'. The engraver's initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation of the bust.

Reverse description A finely detailed depiction of a Labrador Retriever standing alertly on rocky ground, facing right, with a decorative ginkgo tree branch extending across the upper background. The large Chinese character '狗' (Dog) is incuse in the upper right field. The Perth Mint 'P' mintmark appears to the left of the central design. The inscription 'Year of the Dog' curves along the lower border within a beaded inner circle. The design is the work of engraver Ing Ing Jong.
