Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited is one of three commercial banks licensed to issue Hong Kong dollar banknotes — an arrangement inherited from the colonial period and maintained under the "one country, two systems" framework after 1997. The Bank of China itself has issued notes in Hong Kong since 1994, when it consolidated the right from a group of mainland-affiliated banks.
De La Rue's Gateshead facility — formerly the primary production site for much of the company's global output — handled this print run. For a note of this denomination, the security specification is notably thin: watermark alone is sparse by the standards of the series and the value involved.
