| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of São Tomé and Príncipe is prominently displayed in the center of the field, depicting a shield bearing a palm tree, flanked by two African grey parrots with wings spread, serving as supporters. Above the shield is a five-pointed star and a scroll, while a ribbon appears below. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEMOCRATICA DE S. TOMÉ E PRINCIPE arcs around the upper periphery, with the denomination 1000 DOBRAS inscribed below it in the upper field. |

| Additional information |
São Tomé and Príncipe issued a wave of Olympic-themed commemoratives in the early 1990s well ahead of the Atlanta Games — standard practice for small island nations whose mints produced coins primarily for the collector market rather than domestic circulation. Few of these pieces ever reached São Tomé, and fewer still were spent there.
