Togo issues coins under the Central Bank of West African States framework but has long contracted commemorative strikes to European mints — this piece almost certainly produced in Warsaw or Valcambi rather than anywhere near Lomé. The CFA franc itself has been pegged to the French franc, and later the euro, since 1948, a monetary arrangement that has outlasted decolonization, multiple coups, and Gnassingbé Eyadéma's 38-year grip on the country.
